Curriculum-Program of Studies

Shawnee Mission School District middle schools provide a positive, team-driven environment focused on academic rigor and enhanced curricular offerings. Our goal: prepare students for a successful transition to high school.

Middle schools serve not only the academic but the social and emotional needs of seventh- and eighth-grade students. We provide Advanced/Pre-AP courses as well as dynamic and exciting electives for students to cultivate their talents in courses driven by tech, art, culture, food, fashion, health, and business.

In addition, middle schools now offer the competition and sportsmanship of intramural sports to promote personal fitness and school spirit for all students. After school intramural sports complement a variety of other student enrichment activities in science, math, languages, and art.

Students will graduate from middle school with a strong guaranteed, viable curriculum of essential standards in areas of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication.

Shawnee Mission middle schools provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for students to push their academics and to explore and expand their talents.
